This course is intended for those looking to gain knowledge in relevant legislation and other aspects of the environment in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It will provide candidates with a broad understanding of the environment and the issues construction sites face.

Course content

This 1-day course covers:

  • Protection of the environment through legal provisions.
  • Protection of the ecosystem - relationships and interactions between animals, plants and organisms and their environment.
  • Environmental management systems and processes to mitigate environmental damage.
  • Methods to reduce statutory nuisance and disturbance to neighbours.
  • The impact that archaeology and heritage can have on construction.
  • Management of water consumption and minimisation of the impact construction has on water supplies.
  • Control measures to prevent the pollution of watercourses.
  • Identification of ethically sourced timber through the chain-of-custody entering site.
  • Contamination management on brownfield sites.
  • Segregation and proper disposal of waste.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however it has been developed for construction supervisors so this should be considered before applying.

Candidates may wish to complete the Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) or Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) first.

Delegates must be competent in English at site supervisor level.

Additional information

This is delivered via remote classroom; however on-site training can be arranged for your employees if requested.
