Health, Social Care and Childcare

Social worker, nurse, nutritionist, therapist, paramedic, radiographer…there are many career opportunities in the health & social care and childcare sectors, each of them rewarding in their own way.  You can work for a large employer, like the NHS which has over 2 million employees, small private practices or anything in between.

Childcare

A career in early years is fulfilling, enjoyable and profoundly important.  There are a number of jobs available in the sector and you can make a real difference to children and their future development.

Childcare is a dynamic and expanding sector and there are jobs at every level, offering great opportunities to get training, gain qualifications and develop your career. You can choose a career that fits into your life – full time, part time or term time – including nursery nursing, as a classroom assistant, a private nanny or a crèche supervisor.

If you are interested in management, you could end up being your own boss, running your own nursery, with responsibility for staff, budgets and building effective relationships with parents. Pay levels are set locally and depend on the setting, the number of hours you work and your qualifications.

The children’s workforce plays an incredibly valuable role in shaping the lives of future generations and offers unique job satisfaction that comes from helping a child to develop and progress. It’s a career of which you can be proud.

Health and Social Care

From doctors and nurses to medical secretaries and hospital care workers, health and social care is gratifying and vast.

Health consists of both private and public sector organisations including dental practices, general medical & specialist medical practices, hospitals, medical nursing homes and other human health activities such as psychotherapy and physiotherapy.

Whether you’re working in a large residential care home or as a social worker at a local authority, many health & social care jobs can be emotionally demanding with the possibility of shift work and unsociable hours – but extremely worthwhile as you care for others who really need you.

Complementary Therapies

A growing and innovative sector, holistic health and wellbeing careers are incredibly rewarding. Demand has increased for skilled, qualified therapists in a range of therapies – from aromatherapy to reflexology to massage.  You’ll gain practical skills and techniques, supported by the underpinning theory.

28 courses available

I chose the Health and Social Care course because it leads to a wide range of careers in the health sector. The course is interesting – it covers all the different areas of healthcare and there are great opportunities too, like my placement in a nursing home!
